Week 28: week 2 in Olinda!

imageimageimageimageimage

First and most important: Happy birthday to Brandon this week!!!! I love you!!!!!!! cutest elder ever.

Hi guys!!! Im feeling better this week, more accustomed to the area. Lots of hills and summer is starting so as you can imagine IM MELTING. But theres a nice ocean breeze which is great!

the first day here we almost got robbed im pretty sure, wont go into details lol but some teen was following us super close behind so we turned around and invited him to church and then he basically followed us home, SO this is why i have barely any pics. Ive been scared to bring my camera out. Bc i think this area is a little more dangerous than Goiana. its more city with lots of people and movement. But Ill try to take some pics on the beach next Pday!!

If you guys wanna send me letters or packages, the address for letters changed a little, its now the same as the packages with 50070-055. just an FYI!!

One night this week we walked on the boardwalk and it was so nice. The water was all lit up from the moon!! I love being close to the ocean!!!! Its so pretty!!!! Except there are  sharks here!!!

So we were at a members house when Brazil won the soccer gold medal. So i got to watch some bc they had it on, so cute. It was super exciting!!! I heard US did really well! woohooo. But thanks to that stupid Ryan lochte guy, people here are hating on me. One man was like “Oh Shes from the land of the liars”.. 😦 Very sad.

There are so many good investigators here!!!  people with real potential!!! We have a solid baptism set for sept 3, Severina. Ironic that shes from Goiana! Shes super cute, like 50 something. Shes really progressing and shes super sweet. Were excited for her baptism!

Then theres Gleice, whos progressing also and wants to be baptized but her husband wont let her for the time being. So im praying that he’ll soften his heart.

The members here are AMAZING. Like so nice and are so loving towards me and welcoming!!  the area is HUGE!! So sometimes they drive us, bc more of them have cars here.

We took lots of taxis this week haha its so different. And one night we were SUPER far from home teaching a lesson and it was already 9 and i was freaking out bc i always feel like if i break rules ill get assassinated or robbed lol so we called an UBER! they have Uber here!!! then i was like, gosh sister idk if this is trustworthy, who knows who this guy is. Then he arrived and said “Hi sisters, Im the bishop of ___ ward” hahah i felt so much better and we made it home by 9:30 which is the maximum we can be out. So yeah i take taxis now. NBD.

The area is super pretty!! Its really historic and has lots of cool stuff. Ill try to have more courage to take pics this week. Please save all my pics mom, bc i dont have them saved and if i get robbed, my photos will be lost.

Today were going to the temple with our district, I have to give the 20 min lesson tomorow at our district meeting and a 10 min talk in sacrament on sunday! A little stressed but im hoping I’ll get used to things like this and when i get back giving talks witll be no big deal!

sorry for the typos mom, going so fast, only have 5 mins left, we have to catch the bus to Recife!!

Ill include more deets next wek. The Chapel here is so big and nice!! And clean haha. Our house is janky but we are always SO tired that we get home, shower and sleep so its fine.
At least it doesnt have mold like brandons 😦

Love you guys!! Have a great week

Thank you Ali!

So I was transferred! Yikes!! the first transfer is super sad, I received more hugs on Sunday from the members than I have in my whole life put together. lll always love Goiana!! My new area is Olinda. Its a famous touristic city in Brasil and super beautiful! Hence the name, (linda). My new comp is Sister Saad, don’t know much about her yet because ive only been with her like 3 hours. We live in a super old janky 2 sister house, so thatll be fun hahah…but i can see the beach and smell the ocean so thats something happy! The area is HUGE. All of Olinda is just 2 sisters, idk why. So everyday well probably work in a different area. There’re tons of huge hills here, so all the sisters here lose weight. Maybe this was an answer to my prayers hahah.

I had a sheet of paper where I wrote things that happened in the week, but it’s in my suitcase somewhere.

Ive been having horrible headaches almost everyday, so i did a free eye exam from irmao Erik in the branch in Goiana and he said my eyes are tired from the sun and how much we read and study as missionaries makes it worse. So i now have glasses to use inside when i read and at night haha. Mom you can take money out of my account if you want or you can just remember how much you love me :)) hahah

Super sad to leave when Marcelo was almost to the point of being baptized. He’ll have an interview with pres bigelow now to determine when he can be baptized. We taught him this week and he said “If i die tomorrow, i want you guys to be baptized for me in the temple”, me sis moreira and our ward mission leader were all crying but then I said, “umm i hope you’re not planning on dying tomorow?” hahah i was a little worried about this statement. But he was at church on sunday so i was able to say bye to him. I told him i was transferred and his eyes got watery and he left! But I hope i can see pics of his baptism!!!

Packing suitcases for me is super stressful, where is my mom when i need her? Also all of Goiana had a power outage one night this week, where is my dad when i need him ?hahah dad i used the headlamp you sent me with!

Angela bought me super nice silver earrings, shes so sweet!!! Ill miss her and basically all the people in Goiana.

Im excited to be here in Olinda! I remember seeing pics on the Internet before my mission of this area and i was like Wow i wanna serve there! So its cool that i get to serve here! Mom and Dad, are you still planning on picking me up? because theres actually cool things to do here haha

I cant remember anything else I wanted to say; im scatter brained right now. Mom i love the clothes you sent me!! thank you!!!
I miss Sister Moreira already 😦 We cried saying bye to each other hahah everything in the mission is so dramatic.

Ill have more details and be organized next week!!
I love you guys!

Week 26: Samara’s baptism!

Hi everyone!!

This week was super exciting!!

On Wednesday, the youth put on a musical and it was so cute because all the songs were in English!! They kept asking me how to pronounce things. But wow it really made me miss normal music that isnt that EFY music that we do exercises with. One of them sang “Love yourself” by Justin Beiber and I thought of shannon and amber and sydnee and wow never knew id love JB so much. Also there was the classic HAPPY by pharell williams (yikes) and demons by imagine dragons, ed sheeran, red hot chili peppers, etc. Their accents were so cute and funny, sis dunn and i kept looking at each other like wow how cute is this!

Something funny, someone (wont name names) sang Beautiful by James Blunt and that song has the f word in it, so here we all are in the chapel and the f word is approaching and so i looked to sister dunn like oh no here we go, and he just sings the f word all strongly ahahahaha i died. Im sorry, i know it was so bad but i was crying because he was like so serious and no one had any idea.

Im reading the new testament and loving it which is a big accomplishment for me because I need to be a huge fan of the bible!! But i finished Matthew and now im in Mark and I love it!! I love reading about Christ’s life!!

I love the hymn “go forth with faith” esp. verse 2. Sometimes I read my English hymnbook during personal studies bc I miss the hymns in English!! but vs 2 says
. Go forth with love to tell the world
The joy of families–
That we may be with those we love
Thru all eternity.
Go forth to serve and do your best
With no thought of reward;
Then you shall know the boundless joy
Of serving Christ, the Lord

I love teaching people that their families can be together forever!! this is so special. We always mention it in every lesson bc its so important!

SAMARA WAS BAPTIZED ON FRIDAY!! Everything went perfect. She was so nervous for her interview by Elder on Thursday, she was like “NO!! I wanna stay with the sisters!!” She is so cute and we are so happy for her!!! The baptism was great. She’s so different than when I first met her when I arrived here in Goiana. Her face looks so much happier and she has such a light now! Its so insane!!! I though it was super special watching her receive the gift of the Holy Ghost on Sunday. My whole body had the chills and I felt the spirit so strong! I opened my eyes during it and looked at her to just remember the moment and she was smiling and looked so happy! It made me so happy!!! Anyway, super happy week!! Made me motivated to keep working hard!

I love helping people here learn about the gospel who have never heard these things before!!! I have other things to say but im out of time!!

But i love you guys!! Looks like everyones having a fun summer!!!! Talk to you next week

Love,
– Sis Hoffman
